VoltSun Sync (https://voltsun.app) is a free solar calculator and EV charging optimizer. We help electric vehicle drivers estimate solar panel needs and find the best time to charge their vehicles. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. Data we collect
2.1 Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site. This service collects:
- Pages visited and time spent
- General geographic location (country/city level)
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- Referring website
This data is anonymous and aggregated. We do not collect names, email addresses, or personally identifiable information through analytics. Google Analytics sets cookies on your device. See Google's privacy policy for details on how they process this data.
2.2 Email address (optional)
When you use the "Find Your Sync" wizard and request a personalized solar report, we ask for your email address to deliver the report. This email is:
- Used only to send the requested report
- Not shared with third parties
- Not added to any marketing list without your explicit consent
2.3 Location data (address input)
When you enter an address in our calculator or Charge Planner, we use it to query third-party APIs (PVGIS, Open-Meteo) for solar irradiance and weather data. The address is sent as a geocoded latitude/longitude pair — we do not store it.

We use the following cookies:
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. This will not affect the core functionality of our calculator.
4. Legal basis for processing
- Analytics: Legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — improving the service based on aggregated, anonymous usage data.
- Email for report delivery: Contract performance (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — delivering the service you explicitly requested.
5. Third-party services
- Google Analytics 4 — analytics. Data processed in the EU/US under Standard Contractual Clauses.
- PVGIS (EU Joint Research Centre) — solar irradiance data. No personal data is shared.
- Open-Meteo — weather and solar forecast data. No personal data is shared.
- Nominatim / OpenStreetMap — address geocoding. Queries are made with coordinates only.
6. Data retention
We do not maintain a user database. Analytics data is retained for 14 months within Google Analytics, after which it is automatically deleted. Email addresses collected for report delivery are not stored beyond the delivery of the report.
7. Your rights (GDPR)
As a person in the EU/EEA, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of data we hold about you
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Complaint — lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services evolve. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the most recent changes were made. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
